Shirley MacLaine is an American actress, former dancer, and author who is well-known for her portrayal of strong-willed, quirky, and eccentric women. In her over 70 years of career, she received numerous credits, including six Golden Globe Awards, two British Academy Film Awards, two Silver Bears, two Volpi Cups, an Academy Award, and an Emmy Award. She is one of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
MacLaine made her movie debut in The Trouble with Harry, where she won the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year – Actress. Among her notable films are Around the World in 80 Days, Some Came Running, Terms of Endearment, The Turning Point, Steel Magnolias, In Her Shoes, Postcards from the Edge, and Bernie. She also wrote several books, including Out on a Limb.
