Italian actress Sophia Loren was named one of the greatest female stars of Classical Hollywood cinema by the American Film Institute. As of 2022, she is the only surviving person on AFI’s list. After joining a beauty pageant, she was encouraged to attend acting lessons. She began her film career at the age of sixteen with minor roles until her five-picture contract with Paramount launched her international career.

Loren’s investment in the entertainment industry earned her the record of holding seven David di Donatello Awards for Best Actress for her films Two Women, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, Marriage Italian Style, Sunflower, The Voyage, A Special Day, and The Life Ahead. She also received the Academy Honorary Award for lifetime achievements in 1991.
