Apart from being a talk show host, Letterman is a producer. His company, Worldwide Pants, has produced dozens of films and shows, most famous of which is Everybody Loves Raymond. Currently, the 75-year-old still has no plans for retirement. He is hosting his own Netflix show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.

John Astin | Born 1930

John Astin was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and like some actors, he started his acting career in theater. His initial big break as a film actor came in 1961, when he landed a small role in the classic West Side Story. Some of his other films he has been credited with include The Frighteners, The Touch of Mink, Freaky Friday, and Move Over Darling. However, as much of a successful run Astin had in films, his most iconic role would be as Gomez Addams in The Addams Family TV series. He also voiced the same character for the animated series, which aired from 1992 to 1993.

Astin is currently 72 years old, and apart from a prolific acting career, he also served as the Director of Theater Arts and Studies Department at the Johns Hopkins University. He has been teaching in his alma mater since 2001.

Pelé | Born 1940

Edson Arantes do Nascimento or simply known as Pelé is one of the best soccer players in history. Moreover, he is credited for being one of the most successful and famous soccer stars of 20th century. Moreover, in 1999, the International Olympic Committee hailed the Brazilian as the Athlete of the Century.

During Pelé’s professional career, he mainly played for the Brazilian sports club Santos. He played a total 636 matches for the club and scored 618 goals. Moreover, he is part of the most successful FIFA World Cup teams in History. The Brazilian national team, led by Pelé, was a three-time world cup winner, in 1958, in 1962, and in 1970. Outside of soccer, he also served as Brazil’s Minister of Sports from 1995 until 1998.

Julie Andrews | Born 1935

Dame Julie Andrews is one of the most talented actresses to have hailed from the UK. She is highly credited for being one of the most successful actresses of her generation with a career spanning over seven decades. Throughout her career, she has been showered with dozens of accolades, which includes three Grammys, two Emmys, six Golden Globes, a British Academy Film Award, an Academy Award.

Andrews started her career as a child actress, performing in the West End. Later on, she made her Broadway debut back in 1958, in production The Boy Friend. Apart from theater she has a plethora of film appearances, which include Torn Curtain, Duet for One, The Tamarind Seed, and Hawaii. Some of her more modern movie performances include The Princess Diaries, the Shrek franchise, and the Despicable Me franchise.

Kim Novak | Born 1933

Before entering the world of acting, Kim Novak was a model for a refrigerator company. Her career as an actress began in 1954, when she was signed by Columbia Pictures. Shortly then after, she was credited for being one of Hollywood’s top box office stars. Her early films include The Man with the Golden Arm, Pal Joey, and Picnic.

Novak’s most iconic performance was in Alfred Hitchcock’s film Vertigo as Elster and Judy Barton. Although the film initially received mixed reviews, it is now hailed as one of the best films ever made. Her other movies include Strangers When We Meet, Of Human Bondage, and Bell, Book, and Candle. By 1966, although Novak was at the peak of her career, she decided to retire. Since then, she only takes small roles, sporadically doing appearances, and in 1991 at the age of 58 years old, she permanently retired from acting.

Kris Kristofferson | Born 1936

Whoever sang Me and Bobby McGee? Well, there is no one else but Kris Kristofferson. Born in 1936, the country music singer has already retired from the industry, but really, who retires from singing? For sure he is still asked to sing his hits every time there are parties in the family. His retirement is way different from the life he experienced growing up. As the son of an Air Force major general and born at the time of world conflicts, Kristofferson had to serve on the military.

He rose to the rank of captain and piloted a helicopter. Of course, steering one is not as easy as pressing the gas pedal, but the captain was able to do the job. His passion, however, was in singing and so he focused on that instead. He was headed for a lifelong military career or a professorship, but he gave all that up to be a songwriter.

Lee Meriwether | Born 1935

When we think of Catwoman today, we probably do not have an image of the classy Lee Meriwether. However, she did portray this feline superhero, replacing Julie Newmar back in 1966. The actress rose to fame during the ‘60s to ‘70s, while portraying Betty Jones, the lead character’s daughter in law in Barnaby Jones. Meriwether received credit for her work there, having been nominated for the Golden Globe twice.

As for her more recent work, the actress had a recurring role in All my Children, up until 2011. She is largely retired now and she does deserve it. Unlike many people in the business, Meriwether only had two husbands, Aletter in 1958 and then Borden in 1986. She has two daughters who are in full support of the actress. He daughters would not have been surprised upon learning that their mom was a pageant winner back in 1955, as she still carries the glam today.

Loretta Swit | Born 1937

If you had taken on almost every job you can think of, you will be a better person. This is, of course, if you learn from them. Such is the case with Loretta Swit who has been a secretary, personal assistant, a dancer, and even an actress. Needless to say, when she started acting, she took each role seriously. One of the more memorable characters she was credited was Major Hot Lips Houlihan on M*A*S*H. She won two Emmy Awards for this role, which many observers say is well-deserved.

We know her to be Major Houlihan on TV, but did you know she married someone with a similar-sounding name? Yes. From 1983 to 1995, Swit was married to lawyer Dennis Holahan. Interestingly, Holahan appeared on M*A*S*H for a brief period. The actress is also a writer, having written a book on needlepoint.

Margaret O’Brien | Born 1937

Now 85 years old, Margaret O’Brien was once a very prominent child actress. Barely out of the crib, at 4 years old, O’Brien already has a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer. From that point, she became a much sought-after child actress. She gained prominence and even won the Juvenile Academy Award back in 1944 for her work. Later on, the actress took on supporting roles in various films, while also appearing on stage and the theater.

An interesting event in her life is when her Oscars was lost. Apparently, a maid had disposed of it, one way or another, in 1954. The actress has forgotten about it but she had strong hopes initially that the award would resurface one day, and it did in 1995. Through a very arduous process, the award eventually found its way to the rightful owner. By then, she was already given a replacement statuette, but to a great degree, nothing could replace the one given to her 50 years ago. She thanked the two memorabilia collectors who spotted it and returned it to her.

Mel Gibson | Born 1956

What is Mel Gibson’s middle name? Well, that is a tricky question as his full name is Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson. The actor is best known for his role as Max Rockatansky of the Mad Max film series. He has gone a long way and in much improved terms from when the family initially contacted the moving company to move to Australia when he was just 12 years old. He then studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art. Realizing that acting could be a profitable business, he also founded Icon Entertainment back in the ‘80s.

People would mostly remember Gibson not for his acting career, but rather his rather excellent directing spree. He is the person behind Braveheart, which was released in 1995. He is also the one who produced and directed The Passion of the Christ. This biblical drama was highly talked about and was a financial success.

Mel Brooks | Born 1926

Wow. That is one word that will come out of your mouth if you know that Mel Brooks, at 96 years old, has a career that spanned seven decades. He is also an elite actor, being among the EGOTs, a list of actors who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscars, and a Tony. What is even more surprising is that Brooks started reaping all these successes and credits when he was already middle aged. Some of his best works as a director are High Anxiety, Young Frankenstein and The Producers. The last one was his first movie and this was remade into a musical, which was shown in Broadway from 2001 to 2007.

Brooks had very erratic income when he was just starting. At one time he was earning $5,000 a week, and then it dropped to $85 a week when he became a freelance writer. His money management skills and his mettle as a director proved superior to his challenges, so he became very successful. Brooks married Anna Bancroft back in 1964, and he has praised the actress for being a great influence in his life, even until her passing. For sure he misses her dearly.

Michael Caine | Born 1933

He is such an iconic actor that different people of the various generations alive today will remember Michael Caine in different acting roles. With a career spanning seven decades and having appeared on 160 movies, this is not a surprise. He is quite popular not just for his unique acting skills, but also his Cockney accent. Moreover, the British actor has received two Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards and a British Academy Film Award, among others. What he will remember most is being knighted by Queen Elizabeth for his contribution to the arts.

Caine has appeared in seven movies that had been features in the British Film Institute’s 100 greatest British films of the 20th century, and yes, he is the one who played Alfred Pennyworth in The Dark Knight trilogy. In fact, he has been regular fixture in Christopher Nolan’s films. He was also given credit in The Prestige, Tenet and Inception.

Anne Helm | Born 1936

Canadian Anne Helm is now a retired actress, but when she was still active, she appeared primarily in guest roles on various American TV shows. Some of the more prominent shows she was a part of were Sea Hunt, Perry Masson and Rawhide. The actress also appeared on film, with Follow That Dream being one of the more memorable ones, as she played Elvis Presley’s love interest here. Also, in The Interns, Helm appeared with Mildred Gene Kornman, but the latter’s name did not appear on the film credits.

Now that she is no longer actively acting, Helm has directed her energy to writing children’s books. One of her latest writings is Babystar, which was published back in 2018. The actress has also been married twice, first with fellow author John Sherlock and then fellow actor Robert Viharo, after. She has a daughter with Viharo, Serena who followed in her footsteps and became an actress.

Mitzi Gaynor | Born 1954

“Mitzi’s back in town.” That phrase has become a traditional, annual phrase in the city of Vancouver, every time that the famed Mitzi Gaynor was performing at The Cave so she could practice the routines she would eventually show in Las Vegas. As a child, she first made investments to become a ballerina. At 13 years old, she was already dancing and singing with the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera.

The dancer and actress later signed a contract with 20th Century Fox and during the seven-year stint she was partnered with the biggest male stars of the day. With that degree of trust upon her, Gaynor did his best, and so she rose to stardom right at the start of the ‘50s. She took part in Golden Girl, where she played the role of Lotta Crabtree. Gaynor also appeared in Bloodhounds of Broadway, Anything Goes and The Lady Eve, among others.

Morgan Freeman | Born 1937

If you ask any well-versed person who they want to narrate their life in a biopic, that person would likely name Morgan Freeman. Indeed, the actor’s deep voice is quite soothing that it could very well be used in almost every machine that has a voice. He began his acting career when he was still in Mississippi. School plays were his thing back then, but we now know Freeman for his Academy Award winning performances in many movies.

Some of the famous works he has done are the Street Smart, Driving Miss Day and The Shawshank Redemption. In case you do not know this yet, the actor won one of his Oscars with the sports drama Million Dollar Baby. While Freeman is a great actor, he has not limited himself there, he also went behind the camera and directed, one of which is Bopha! Many producers have made investment in this versatile actor.

Nancy Olson | Born 1928

Nancy Olson’s claim to fame is being nominated for the Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress for her part in Sunset Boulevard, which was released back in 1950. She has appeared in four movies along with William Holden. She did not spend that much time as an actress, retiring in the mid-1980s. Some of the movies she has appeared in include Battle Cry, Making Love and Snowball Express. The actress has also been part of several TV programs, including The Big Valley and Police Surgeon.

Olson has been a very vocal Democrat and has been providing financial support to the party. As for her personal life, the retired actress has been married to lyricist Alan Jay Lerner and then later contacted the lawyer to separate. She then got married to Alan W. Livingston, who was responsible for creating the likes of Bozo the Clown and Frank Sinatra.

William Devane | Born 1974

The names Nehemiah Persoff and William Devane might not be familiar to many of us, but these two were actually part of the same document drama, The Missiles of October, which was released back in 1974. The latter is also known for playing the role of Greg Sumner in the primetime soap opera Knots Landing. Those who are fond of the series 24 remember him as James Heller. Devane also appeared as the famous Al Capone in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

Now that she is a little older, Devane has taken on more challenging roles. He appeared as President Hayes in Stargate: Continuum and then as Grandpa Edward Grayson in the soap opera Revenge. Many other moviemakers had made investments in the actor, proving that he is a very versatile one. Of course, the major acknowledgement he got is from his wife, Euginie Devane.

Pat Priest | Born 1974

Usually, when there is a recasting done in a movie or a TV show, people resist the second person brought in to take the role. This was not the case with Patricia Priest, who took over the character of Marilyn Munster in The Munsters. She was well received and well-liked. Interestingly, Priest was also born of parents who were high up in the political arena. Her mother, Ivy Baker Priest, was at one time the US treasurer, and so, money printed during her tenure had her signature.

We can assume that they did not need financial advisors, because at that time, they were very good in managing their resources under the guidance of their mother. No doubt, this trait was carried to her adulthood by Priest. She could even afford to retire from acting in the ‘80s, which was really just the height of her acting career. Pat has appeared in several movies, including Easy Come, Easy Go and Airport.

Peggy Dow | Born 1928

The public relations team condensed Peggy Josephine Varnadow’s name to its bare minimum when Universal Pictures signed her back in 1949, giving rise to Peggy Dow.

A talent agent noticed Dow’s local modeling and radio chances and cast her in February 1949. As a result of more TV exposure, Universal decided to extend her a seven-year deal. She made her film debut in 1949’s suspenseful Undertow and then appeared in 1950’s Woman in Hiding. She then reached the height of her career when she earned credit as the charming nurse in the classic farce Harvey. After three years in the business, Dow retired, wed Walt Helmerich, and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Despite a positive Hollywood outlook, she never looked back and raised five sons in the process. She is passionate about doing good deeds and is particularly interested in Tulsa’s health and library issues.

Philip Michael Thomas | Born 1949

Given how well-known he is today for his role as Detective Ricardo Tubbs on Miami Vice, Philip Michael Thomas was undoubtedly at the height of his career back then. He has been in the entertainment business professionally since 1968, and he’s not going to retire.

Throughout his career, Thomas has been active in the film, music, television, and even video game industries. That may be enough for many people to remember him fondly, along with his Miami Vice investments. Aside from these performances, he’s faded steadily into the background. Following a brief reunion with Don Johnson in two Nash Bridges episodes, Thomas capitalized on his former Miami Vice reputation by lending his voice to the character Lance Vance in two Grand Theft Auto: Vice City games. Thomas last contributed vocals to the show in 2006 and hasn’t appeared in any other episodes since.

Richard Chamberlain | Born 1934

Throughout his incredible career, Richard Chamberlain has achieved great success. He acquired widespread acclaim for coming out at age 69, much like his prowess on screen. Today, he has developed into one of the most well-known figures of his time. He is also remembered as one of the first performers to admit their gender identity officially.

Chamberlain learned how to act from legendary actor Jeff Corey. Soon after, his career saw the breakthrough that made him a household name, and together they founded the theater organization Company of Angels. He was cast as the title character in the medical TV series Dr. Kildare, and his endearing traits quickly attracted widespread acclaim and a devoted following. His career is still going strong at the age of 88. Outside his investments, he remains a prominent figure in the film industry and is currently a vocal supporter of LGBTQ rights.

Barbara Eden | Born 1931

Barbara Eden created one of the most recognizable and adored TV characters when she donned her well-known genie costume and started granting wishes. In the television series I Dream of Jeannie from 1965 to 1970, she played Jeannie alongside Larry Hagman. The famous role is what she is best known for, and she continues to promote Jeannie today by offering a wide selection of merchandise in her online store. She also stated that she has no plans to leave the public spotlight anytime soon, although her acting career spans several decades, and she is in her 90s.

Eden had made numerous T.V. and film credits before I Dream of Jeannie. She performed on Harper Valley P.T.A. and made appearances in several Dallas and Sabrina, The Teenage Witch episodes. Eventually, she would reappear in two I Dream of Jeannie films. However, her most recent appearance was in the 2019 film My Adventures with Santa.

Nancy Sinatra | Born 1940

We mentioned the famed singer, Frank Sinatra in one of the articles here, and we are also pleased to include Nancy Sinatra. The eldest daughter of the singer, she is both a singer and an actress. She is known for her signature hit These Boots Are Made for Walkin’, which was released back in 1966.

As expected, Sinatra began her singing career by following the footsteps of her father to a great degree. She first appeared on her dad’s TV variety series, which achieved success in Japan and Europe. When her hit song came about, she began to be recognized internationally and between 1966 to 1968 she charted on Billboard’s Hot 100 with 14 titles to her name. Sinatra also appeared in a number of movies, like The Wild Angels and Speedway. She and her father became reel-life father and daughter in Marriage on the Rocks.

Loni Anderson | BORN 1955

She was originally going to be named Leiloni, but her father thought she might be teased about it so Loni was chosen instead. The budding actress grew up in Minnesota and this is also where she was first noticed by people. She has this unique beauty which immediately captured the eyes of her peers so she was voted Valentine Queen in 1963. Just three years later producers would also see her potential so she got a minor role in Nevada Smith. Later, she appeared as guest star on various TV shows.

For a decade, Loni’s acting career took a dip, but we can guess that she has good money management style because she was able to weather the dry spell. She started receiving projects again by 1978, this time playing Jennifer Marlow in the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati. While her career might seem ordinary, her love life was not, in just a short span of time, the actress had four husbands, beginning with Bruce Hasselberg. Interestingly, her more colorful union is with Burt Reynolds. Anderson is also a patron of COPD causes and at one time a spokesman of one of the organizations.

Joyce Dewitt | Born 1949

Joyce Dewitt was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, and spent her formative years in Speedway, Indiana. Later on, she finished her degree in theater at Ball State University and received her master’s at UCLA. She started acting as early as 13 years old, performing in theater plays, and her TV debut happened when she was working as a secretary at UCLA, in an episode of Baretta.

Dewitt is famously credited for her performances as Janet Wood in the sitcom Three’s a Company, which aired from 1977 until 1984. She also played the same role in an episode of The Ropers, which is a spinoff of the sitcom. After over seven years in the series, she took a break from acting and returned in the TV movie Spring Fling! as Lynda Hayden. Today, she remains active as an actress today at the age of 73 years old.

Tina Turner | Born 1939

Known as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” Tina Turner rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the Ike and Tina Turner Revue before pursuing a successful career as a solo performer. Interestingly, her hit song What’s Love Got to Do with It in 1984 won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year. This is also her first and only song that topped the Billboard Hot 100. At the age of 44 years old, she became the oldest female solo performer to top the Hot 100.

Turner is considered as one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. Among the credits she received are twelve Grammy Awards, including eight competitive awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and three Grammy Hall of Fame. She also has a star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2005, she received the Kennedy Center Honors and Women of the Year award.
