The Wonders of Pets: Celebrity Edition

There’s probably a reason why some of us prefer the company of pets. They may not equate the interactions with another human being but they can be similar in that they possess certain personalities, emotions, and preferences, to name a few. Pets are products of thousands of years of domestication, but most times, they’re beyond that—pets are family.

Apart from being these bundles of joy, pets do a degree of wonders: they give us love, they make us laugh with their cute antics, and most of all, they can be a source of constant happiness. Pets do not care about how we look, how much we make, or where we stand in the social ladder. They’re among the few who will really accept us for who we are. This is perhaps the single most important thing that sets pets apart from humans.

Here are a few of our most loved celebrities who are fond of their pets.

1. Reese Witherspoon’s Donkeys

Aside from her two pups—a Labrador and a French Bulldog—Reese Witherspoon owns Honky and Tonky. They aren’t the usual pets we see among celebrities, however. They’re adorable miniature donkeys. She makes sure her “badonkadonks” are being taken care of by her kids. Now this is a good way to teach them how to take responsibility.

Witherspoon is an Academy Award winning actress who has credits in films such as Legally Blonde, Sweet Home Alabama, and Four Christmases among others.

2. Justin Bieber’s Capuchin Monkey

One of the celebrities who have owned an odd selection of pets is Justin Bieber. He used to own a capuchin monkey named Mally, which was given to him by rapper Mally Mall as a birthday present. Unfortunately, Mally was separated from him due to animal rights violations.

Bieber is one of the singer-songwriters who has taken the music industry by storm. At the young age of 15 years old, he has already released his first album. His degree of artistry was discovered on the video streaming site YouTube.

3. Leonardo DiCaprio’s Tortoise

Leonardo DiCaprio, lead actor of the film Inception, is reported to have a deep fascination with exotic pets. He is often spotted in the reptile shop Prehistoric Pets. One his most recent choices for a pet was a 45-pound, seven-year-old tortoise. These creatures are known to survive for over two centuries! “They make really good pets,” the actor added.

The actor’s earliest appearance is back in the 1991 television series entitled Santa Barbara. Subsequently, he penetrated the world of film with appearances in This Boy’s Life, Titanic, and The Man in the Iron Mask among others. For his credit in The Revenant, DiCaprio received an Oscar for Best Actor.

4. Miley Cyrus’ Pig

What’s even better than owning a pet pig and naming it “Pig”? Miley Cyrus knows the answer. In addition to owning a couple of dogs (Happy, Milky, Mary Jane, Emu, Bean, Floy, Lila, Penny Lane, Moonie, and Ziggy) and a few cats (Keke and Shanti Om), she has a pig named Pig running around with them.

Cyrus made her way to fame as a teen idol in Disney Channel’s critically-acclaimed Hannah Montana. After attaining a significant degree of exposure, she parlayed her success into singing.

5. Tori Spelling’s Chicken

Most of us, on hearing Coco Chanel, would think of the popular fashion brand. However, for Tori Spelling, she decided to name her pet chicken Coco Chanel; she often brings her pet on her errands. Apart from being a loving mother to her kids, Spelling is a dedicated pet owner as well.

Spelling is the daughter of one of Hollywood’s most prized producers Aaron spelling. Tori’s earliest appearance was in the television drama entitled Beverly Hills. Having acquired significant success, Spelling made investments in a clothing and jewelry line.
