5 NBA Teams with The Most Number of World Championships

It’s safe to assume that most of us have been huge sports fans throughout the past few decades. Of course, basketball has been one of the most celebrated sports worldwide, and the NBA sits right in the middle of the spotlight. With this in mind, there have been a few teams that have received credit for separating themselves from the rest of the teams throughout the league. If you ask what separates them from the rest, it’s the number of championships they’ve won throughout the history of the league.

We’ve managed to list five NBA teams with the most number of championships. Without a doubt, you’ll find some of the most iconic teams that have graced the hardwood and the NBA throughout its rich history!

The Boston Celtics

Every NBA fan certainly knows about the Boston Celtics and this team’s rich history. The entire Celtic dynasty began back in 1957 after they acquired Bill Russell. Eventually, he and the rest of the Celtic legends went on to win a whopping 11 NBA championships throughout the late ‘50s up to the late ‘60s. He also received credit for multiple championships as a coach. There’s certainly no doubt that Russell and the Celtics are one of the most successful teams in the history of the NBA.

Besides Russell, other legendary Celtic players such as Larry Bird, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett also managed to win multiple championships for the franchise. The number of championships they’ve won certainly isn’t a surprise, considering that there have been a ton of NBA legends who put on that Celtics jersey throughout the NBA’s history.

The Los Angeles Lakers

The second NBA team with the most NBA championships is none other than the Los Angeles Lakers. They currently have 16 NBA championships, and there have also been several NBA legends who’ve played for this storied franchise. Some of the franchise’s most memorable championships came during the Lakers dynasty during the ‘80s as they won five rings throughout the decade. Of course, the legends who deserve credit for their success during the ‘80s are none other than Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and James Worthy.

You could say that Magic was one of the first legitimate basketball superstars. He was certainly one of the most dominating players during his time. Other Laker legends who also won championships for the franchise include Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Pau Gasol, and most recently, LeBron James, who won a championship with the Lakers back in 2020.

 The Chicago Bulls

Besides the Lakers and the Celtics, the franchise that’s also as iconic as both of them is the Chicago Bulls. Who could forget the Bulls’ domination during the ‘90s? You could say that there was no team fit to beat them as they managed to win six championships throughout the decade. One could even argue that they would’ve won more had Michael Jordan not retired from the NBA just to play baseball.

The Bulls didn’t just dominate the league, but they also dominated pop culture during the era. You could even make the case that everyone was a Bulls fan at the time. Other legendary Bulls players who won championships and played besides Jordan include Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Steve Kerr, and Tony Kukoc.

 The Golden State Warrior

It’s definitely interesting to learn that the Golden Warriors have six championships. They certainly had championship experience way before they dominated the second half of the 2010s. Besides their championships in 2015, 2017, and 2018, the Warriors also took credit for winning the 1947, 1956, and 1975 NBA championships. You could say that this franchise knows a thing or two about accumulating rings and banners!

The San Antonio Spurs

If you’re a huge basketball fan, then you certainly have heard about Greg Popovich’s legendary career as an NBA head coach. Of course, we couldn’t accurately tell his legacy as a legendary NBA coach if we didn’t mention the five championships he’s won with the San Antonio Spurs. Of course, Popovich didn’t win it by himself, he did it while coaching a stellar cast of NBA legends which includes David Robinson, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard, and Tim Duncan.
